Only in NZ - Father at 111 Years Old

Image
Tuatara Becomes Father At Age 111 | NowPublic News Coverage Proving that it never really is too late, a tuatara--a rare reptile native to New Zealand--has become a father, possibly for the first time, at the age of 111. But Mildred, an 80-year-old tuatara, apparently caught Henry's eye and the two mated last summer. Mildred's eggs recently hatched, making Henry a father at the ripe old age of 111. The birth is great news for staff at the Southland Museum in Invercargill . The museum is home to Henry and more than 70 more tuataras, an endangered species that is of great interest to scientists. The tuatara is descended from a familiy of reptiles that roamed the earth at the same time as dinosaurs. The reptile hasn't changed its form much in over 225 million years. The relatives of tuatara died out about 60 million years ago which is why the tuatara is sometimes called a "living fossil." Download their Tuatara brochure from this link. Could Salmon be the New Xmas Dinner?

Image
Salmon threat to turkey - Local News - The Marlborough Express The days of the traditional roast turkey on the Kiwi Christmas dinner table may be over, and the salmon industry looks to be one of the major beneficiaries . The New Zealand King Salmon Company recorded a 30 per cent jump in New Zealand sales for December 2008, with 426 tonnes of salmon sold on the New Zealand market, which equated to $6 million. New Zealand King Salmon had just under $10 million in sales worldwide, which was a record for it. Said the companies chief executive, Paul Steere, "I'd prefer a nice bit of salmon as opposed to an expensive turkey with all the trimmings and we have to think that the general public have a similar school of thought, too." And, according to Scenic Circle Blenheim Hotel chef Chris Fortune, Mr Steere may not be too far off the mark with many people looking for lighter style or healthier options for dinner, and salmon was one of these. Playmobil Security Check Point: Toys & Games Just in case you thought toys were starting to get boring.......but the best is the comments left.... .....5 year old son pointed out that the passenger's shoes cannot be removed. Then, we placed a deadly fingernail file underneath the passenger's scarf, and neither the detector doorway nor the security wand picked it up. My son said "that's the worst security ever!". But it turned out to be okay, because when the passenger got on the Playmobil B757 and tried to hijack it, she was mobbed by a couple of other heroic passengers, who only sustained minor injuries in the scuffle, which were treated at the Playmobil Hospital.

Well....hello.....
